Happy Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving I love Thanksgiving. I've said many times it's my favorite holiday. Yesterday and today Gracie and I hiked, and I'm posting pictures tonight of some of the things we're most thankful for- fresh air, clean water and trees! Have a great holiday! Beautiful shots! Even though the repeats had me doing double, triple and quadruple takes -- making sure there wasn't something I was missing. Enjoy your holiday.

Thank you dear! I am really grateful that I live in a place where people thought, years ago, to set aside some land and leave it alone! Al Sabo Preserve is several hundred acres that a city engineer thought we should have as a protected watershed for the city's artesian wells. There is a photo of a wellhead that I posted. You can find them in the center of the preserve where we hiked the last couple of days, but apart from that and one access road for the water department workers, it's wild. Today Al Sabo would be strung up as a commie rat, but he was thinking ahead, about the welfare of future generations, and he wanted them to have clean water to drink. The preserve was named in his honor. Become a member now and get a free tote bag.

Thanks, Lola! I think I hit the jackpot- nine copies of one photo! While I was fooling around with image size I managed to Streeeeeeeeetch them really tall, and did that ever look weird. But now I know what to do if I ever post a picture of my dick. I can make it look sixteen inches! We have a lot of preserves here. Al Sabo is my favorite, but none of them are very far away. I love my city! Become a member now and get a free tote bag.

It IS a lot of work! I used to cook, but PD loves doing it and she's better at it than me. It's her one chance during the year to work herself into a coma and show off her cooking skills. Become a member now and get a free tote bag.

Thanks, man! We had a great holiday. I hope you did too! I can't say enough how much I love the place, or how much I'm grateful to the folks who set aside all this unspoiled land. It really is unusual for a town to do that kind of thing. We have our developers here too- a lot of magnificent old homes were wrecked for new buildings downtown, and we've got wasteful shopping strips and malls, but we also have these preserves. It's an electrical box for the wellhead. It says "12' on it. The wells are more or less in the center of the preserve, along the creek and its marshes. It seemed like a simple thing way back then, to invest in clean undeveloped and unfarmed land to preserve as a clean water source, but it takes on a significance today that is an object lesson in municipal planning that is instructive of good government practices. Free marketeers and those who would privatize all government services drink the water, use the park and at the same time bitch about the political philosophy that created them. Kalamazoo has a history of good government. In 1959 Al Sabo wasn't a visionary, he was just a conscientious civil engineer who planned ahead for the community he lived in. Now, TODAY, he appears as a visionary because of the shortsightedness and short term greed of so many of the political hacks and ward heelers who followed him. He's a giant in comparison to the mental midgets who are pulling the strings now. Become a member now and get a free tote bag.
