Salvation!

Jim Harbaugh is coming back to the Big House! Hooray, hooray, hoo-fucking-ray!

OK. That's out of my system. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

I'm not sure what triggered this sudden onset of Tourette's syndrome, but I trust you are seeking all appropriate remedies.

How 'bout dem Saints?

Saints? I thought you were Jewish. What Saints?

I'm a longtime Michigan fan. I try to be a quiet one for the most part. I loathe loud mouthed, belligerent and obnoxious sports fans and I will not associate with them. But there was an announcement on the local news at noon that Jim Harbaugh has decided to return to his Alma Mater to try to resurrect a proud football program that is in tatters. The last couple of years have been painful ones. To mix metaphors slightly, there has been little joy in Mudville, but love is now in the air.

Hey, you're the one who brought up salvation: I just decided to go with the handiest ecumenical/pigskin reference.

As for your posted shirt: You're a very, very bad man. And I am a bad man for laughing out loud when I saw it.

There is no salvation for either of us, I'm afraid...

I don't need salvation in that sense. I NEED Michigan to beat Ohio State. One cannot live a happy and fulfilled life while losing to the Woodys three years in a row.

LadyLeo, we are kindred spirits! I am also a long suffering fan of the Monsters of the Midway. Like Rick said in Casablanca "Louie, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship." (I hope you don't mind me calling you Louie.)

There are probably other good coaches who could help, but Harbaugh was a fine quarterback for Michigan and he returns to the Sacred Soil of Ann Arbor and the Big House! This is the second coming spoken of in the Bible!

If any one can do it, Harbaugh can. I can't believe San Francisco let him get away.
Ya know, I agree with you. The 49er's shoulda hung on to Harbaugh. But I'm prejudiced- I was a Jim Harbaugh fan when he played for the Wolverines and I liked him when he was with Chicago. Most Michigan fans would like to dig up Bo Schembechler and have him re-animated, but I think Harbaugh will do well and last long.

I had to look up who Jim Harbaugh was. Now I know. My knowledge of American football is very miniscule. I don't really understand the game.

I'll let you in on a little secret- Americans don't understand the game either, but everybody gets to pretend to be an authority. That's part of the fun.

I'm not what you'd call a fan. The hype puts me off. I like watching some sports, and it's fun to get excited about it, but sometimes people need to get a grip.

My post was a little bit tongue in cheek, but not completely. I enjoy watching college football while at the same time realizing full well that it's fucking silly and contributes none of the things attributed to the sport by it's supporters.

A sport that truly possesses redeeming social value is women's volleyball.

He will surely turn around the College football team into winners!
I wondered if you would weigh in on this. I thought he was a good coach for the Forty Niners. Like most Wolverine fans, I'm delighted to see him come back to the University of Michigan. They have a winning tradition and he was a part of that.

He's a football coach, my dear, and a good one. He played quarterback for the U of M in the eighties, played some pro football, and then became a successful coach. It's in his family- his father and brother are both coaches.

Michigan has a long and proud winning tradition that makes them a natural rival for a number of teams. Lately they have been losing a lot and playing poorly. Like so many college athletic programs, the alumni will not stand for losing, and particularly, it is tragedy in Shakespearean terms when Michigan loses to Ohio State.

So the return of Harbaugh to Ann Arbor is the second coming, the charge of cavalry coming to the rescue...it is as the liberation of Paris to the French. In other words, Michigan fans are pretty well tickled.
