While we were at Asylum Lake I walked along the outlet creek a bit and took some pictures of it. The ice that had formed along the bank was beautiful and there were exquisite white crystals dotting the surface of the ice shelves.

It does look like ice fog, and hoar frost. The water coming out of the lake was VERY cold!

I was taken with the patterns in the ice. It's pretty! When I was a kid we lived in an old farmhouse with windowpanes of wavy old glass. The glass would get the coolest frost patterns on it and I'd sit and admire it for the longest time...

 Now and then we get hoarfrost of a morning. It doesn't last long but I remember a sunrise over the vineyard behind my house when all that hoarfrost changed color by the second, gold and red, then pink, finishing in a glare of white. It was spectacular.

 The outlet creek isn't very long. It doesn't even run a quarter mile between Asylum Lake and Little Asylum Lake but it's wild and wooded and very pretty.
