The Other Stuff

We didn't just find dragonflies yesterday, but they deserved their own post since mcmaniac was also looking at them hundreds of miles to the south, at practically the same time. I'm starting to get the hang of my new camera. I'm nowhere near knowing what I can do with it, but I'm starting to scratch the surface.

I was the laggard again Friday at Al Sabo, and a number of times I'd round a curve in the trail to find PD and Gracie sitting alongside the trail waiting. Gracie gets concerned if they get too far ahead of me and she balks, making PD wait too. There's no loyalty like a dog's loyalty. Sometimes she even insists on going back to look for me. Then they'd take off again and I'd get behind again, right away. I used to take a hundred photos per hike with the old Nikon, maybe two hundred on a special day. I'm taking between six and seven hundred shots now every time we go out. If I can get the macro lens I want for ultra close ups, I may never come back. Autumn and winter are going to be great!

At home, we have woodchucks. One of them is so big I thought he was a goddam bear! I swear he's gotta weigh fifty pounds. I set a live trap for him, and baited it with muskmelon. I'm none too confident of this trap- I don't think it's anywhere near big enough for the megalodon woodchuck. That animal has got to be sporting saber teeth. My last Rocky could have handled him but I don't want Gracie getting near him- he'd scare her, shame her, steal her lunch money and send her home in tears. The trap in the end is a failure for any size woodchuck- the hooligan ground squirrels are stealing my bait. I may have to get a bow and arrows- I can't legally shoot a firearm in the city.

700 shots??? Holy shutterbug Batman!!

Incredible detail there, I can understand 700 Once with my old film camera I got a perfect opportunity to shoot my GFs canary while out of it's cage. It was early morning and the sunlight was cutting right into the room. The bird perched on the arm of the chair in the beam of light and stayed there while I got my camera and moved in close. One of the shots was so perfect you could see feather detail...amazing. He was posing for me, the 3 pictures turned out so awesome...she framed them and hang it on the wall in her living room

LMAO @ the bullychuck

Everyone is on a different plane of intelligence. Some people's plane has not taken off yet!!

It's easy to do with this camera. The old Nikon was possessed of a delay- you punched the button and it took a second or two for the shutter to open. Not the D70s. So I snap a lot more shots of everything and I move around getting different angles. but I will have to get an external hard drive to store all that shit. I don't think I have the discipline yet to throw away good shots that weren't perfect- I want to save them.

Leo, that's really sweet of you to say. But I'm a rank amateur. I have a friend up northern Michigan way, in Traverse City, who takes magnificent photos. I'm pleased with how mine are turning out, but if you could see her stuff you'd sniff at mine.

I know just what you mean. I've been a gun owner for years but I'm getting pretty sour on it lately. A firearm is a tool- a dangerous one- and clearly not for everyone. I've never liked hunting. I have shot varmints from time to time, but I've never felt comfortable with it. Every time I've felt guilt for not being smart enough to do it another way.

600 to 700 shots per walk and nary a camel toe, ass cheek, or a cleavage shot in the bunch? I do like that tiny grasshopper in the last pic!
How fortuitous that you should mention it. We did go to Harborfest in South Haven this afternoon, as I said. I took six hundred and fifty one photos, nearly every one of delicious young women. A marvelous time was had by all, especially me. I promised myself that I wouldn't post photos of unsuspecting women here...and I probably won't post any of them on AssPlace either. But you do have a private collection...so I WILL forward a few for your perusal and enjoyment.

Thank you dear. There's just so much out there to see, you know? I could post a hundred photos...so it's probably just as well I'm limited to ten.

Thank you! Right now, what with all the crawling and flying fauna, and the riot of wildflowers, I'm excited about being able to get decent close ups. I couldn't really get the detail I was after with the old Nikon.

I had to look up what a woodchuck was. We don't get woodchucks here but I'm now rounding up a woodchuck army for self-defence purposes!

I love looking at those and I like taking pictures of them. We Americans jizz all over ourselves about a green flower free lawn and dandelions are considered a pernicious weed- when in fact they're beautiful, intricate and delicate.

I coulda enlightened you about woodchucks. They're voracious unprincipled greedy thieves. If it's war they want, it's war they'll get! Last year they ate every one of my winter squash.

    Start your own T.V. show.
    In Search Of Monster Woodchucks.
Do it just like the bigfoot shows.
Walk around hear sounds where there are none.
Do a lot of stopping and blank stares.
Give no proof of the actual existence of the Monster woodchuck.
And you'll be on T.V. at 5 years. LOL!
Rock, you're a man after my own heart! Now that I think about it, that might not have been a woodchuck I saw, but Bigfoot. I know everybody thinks I'm exaggerating, but this is one huge woodchuck. He MUST live in a tent because I can't find a hole around here that's big enough for him to squeeze his fat ass into.

We do have some little and average sized woodchucks but the one I saw looked a like a '57 Buick in a fur coat.
Huggggggggs! B.

It is a gateway drug. I keep telling MB I need more lenses. I need a wide angle, a telephoto, at least two more rigs....UHG! You should see my dads camera bag(s)...he is a professional photographer. Now we know where I get it. Whats your excuse? LOL
Greta shots!

There is a difference between a good BJ and a bad BJ.

Yeah, once you get started, you gotta have more stuff. In a way it gets in the way of the hike...but I LIKE taking pictures.
