Errata

About a week ago, when it was nice and cool, we hiked Al Sabo and when we got back I wandered around the yard taking photos of whatever caught my eye. There are lilies, Rose of Sharon and Queen Anne's lace blooming in profusion, and thistle. So here they are.

I did not know they had those fancy names, in my back yard they are: flower, flower, thorny thing, flower, weed, and flower.
Yeah, a lot of stuff gets named the same thing by me. But I knew the names of these. I would have said Rose of Sharon is one of my favorites, but kind of like women, whichever one I'm looking at is my current favorite.

Thank you dear! I haven't been using it a lot and I'm kind of stuck. The landscape photos aren't turning out very well. I need to take some time fucking with it and learning more about fine tuning a shot.

Rose of Sharon is a kind of hibiscus, yes. Hibiscus syriacus. We have three colors here. White, lavender and pink.

Hope you steered clear of pic #2's main attraction? LOL!
Thistle I don't mind too much- I had nettles at my place in the country, and I try to steer clear of those!

Pretty pics! The flowers were slow to show themselves this summer here, but the recent heat and drier weather has coaxed them out now. It is a little late but mine have come on with purpose lol. Very pretty right now, vivid green with a lot of showy flowers.
Much of spring here was dry, and then the deluge came. It's been wet since, and we had an explosion of color in all that green. The big disappointment was our raspberry crop. I was expecting tons of berries, but it never panned out. They were late and sparse.

Hiking nude is a very effective way to maintain the solitude I seek in the woods. I still don't do it- there are bugs and thorns, ya know. And my wife refuses to pose nude outdoors. Posting nude photos of myself would also be a very effective way of maintaining solitude in my blog. In spite of appearances, that's not what I'm aiming for.

I like the variety of lilies too. we have a lot of cool stuff growing on the property. This year we had a bumper crop of jack in the pulpit. And I didn't get a single decent picture of one. They bloomed just before I got my new camera.

Thanks Kinky! The part that isn't luck is that i'm out there looking, and I know what I like, what looks good to me. The best advice I got on taking pictures was: Take pictures, and play around with the settings.

I love peonies. My mom and grandma grew them when I was a kid. We don't have any here but this was a great year for our star magnolia.

Thanks, V. The camera was a gift from my brother in law. he got a new one for his birthday and surprised me with this one.
It's been hot here too, and we don't much like hiking when it's hot and sticky, so I haven't been taking many pictures lately.

Most of the beautiful flowers here were planted before we showed up. And we don't do a lot of cultivation. They're nearly all maintenance free, and we let weeds with lovely flowers grow as long as they aren't too invasive. A couple of the Rose of Sharon have flowers of more than one color blooming on them. I like letting things run wild.

what on earth is that super thorny thistle-ly thing??? Looks nasty lol. Great shots though of everything. So pretty. I missed seeing garden flowers the last week while in Banff, but there was wildflowers everywhere, so that helped!!
