The best I've read thus far! Fabulous story with some great, lowdown characters... kinda reminds me of James Ellroy's stuff.
Aw, shucks, thanks! There are some really good posts for this symposium.

Thanks Kinky! That's really kind of exciting, thinking of you reading me in bed. I want to be the Illustrated Man.

Thanks!
But just which "mounties" are you thinking of?
I have no doubt that mounties have caught up with you and even mounted you- it's hard to run in those shoes you're sporting.

I loved the way you wrote this with the snark (19 yr old and pain).
International intrigue, indeed!

A lot of kids take themselves far too seriously. (OK, so do a lot of adults.)
Thanks, KItkat. I've been meaning to write about some of this stuff for years. There's an entropy in human affairs that's sometimes mistaken for karma, or what goes around comes around, or as ye sow, also shall ye reap. But most of our plans and aspirations go awry and simply don't turn out the way we imagine them. It's one of the reasons for my affinity for W.S. Burroughs- he sees decay and degeneration everywhere in our lives and our constructs.

I find the true stories more compelling than fiction, as I was telling Naughty who also delivered along that vein. Thanks for telling yours. I loved it! We have lived in some scary and exciting times. I just missed that damn war myself.

You wrote it well, too.

Thanks Keith! I think everyone's times are scary in one way or another.

Agreed. I almost rewrote the comment as I realized the same thing you did. I left it because I'm lazy.

Great story! Billy had a good thing going but unfortunately had a double dose of desire for more lol. Human nature I guess... things are good now but it could be better lol.
I think part of it was just that Lurch pissed him off. Lurch seemed to be suffering from an overdose of testosterone at times and Billy wanted to take him down a peg. It was a good thing if everybody played nice but Lurch kind of wanted to run the game.

I am glad you never aspired to be like Billy Whiskey. And I am very glad you were able to live and tell such stories.
Me too, honey. Me too.

I wouldn't say I hate heroin, although I saw a lot of people ruin themselves chasing it. It's very seductive. I'd say it definitely dampens empathy and causes you to turn inward. There aren't any physically debilitating effects- all that stems from the drug being illegal, and the lifestyle junkies have to enter in its pursuit. I think it's safer to stick with opium. Refinements and concentrations haven't proven to be very healthy for western man. Coca leaves serve a useful medical purpose for Mestizos, but when converted to cocaine it gets very powerful and very dangerous. We've sort of opened a Pandora's Box with technology in many ways- but there's no turning back.
So glad you lived to tell!

What a great tale! My Ex and I sold ,meth to provide us with a free meth lifestyle, but we always snorted our profits. I had a few experiences with opium, but heroin is something I never tried.
I was listening to a documentary about what some H. consumers call scarier than anything; today's Meth. It scares me very much, for the kids. I used to smoke weed, and haschich, so I have no idea of how one falls into stronger stuff, and how you can get out of it. Apparently with the stuff that people use today, quitting is much harder.

I can't speak to that- I never liked uppers, and street drugs are poison. I haven't been near them in years. It IS hard to quit opiates. If God made anything better she kept it for herself.

Falling into stronger stuff was easy, it was all about sex. 1st coke sex, but the effects wear off, meth lasts lots longer. Sex on meth ruined sex for us after we quit.
Do you think that was the meth, or was the whole lifestyle thing a part of it?
