As always... a great read! I was a little bummed as I was hoping for a story of dry humpery on a first date but this was better lol. much better.

A bit of a history lesson along with the story, I like that and learned a little too. I generally tune out when religion comes up but enjoyed how you approached it.

It is funny, I think history has glossed over the story of the Native Americans on the East coast... it is not as recognizable of a story compared to the Plains tribes and the Western Indian wars.
Thanks. The way we remember the story, the way we make a myth of it, isn't always on the mark. Not all the Pilgrims were Puritan, the colonists went deeply in debt to take on this venture, and their backers didn't give a damn about religious conviction- they wanted a return on the investment. It was an alliance with the Wamapanoag that helped the colony to survive, but the alliance wouldn't survive much more than fifty years. You can judge fear by the viciousness of the response to it. There's an analogy in present day Israel.

If he did show up for Thanksgiving dinner that would've been very uncomfortable as well as frightening.
    Shoot him in the head.
That's how you kill zombies. LOL!
He was upwardly mobile. Never trust a social climber! I made out OK when digging up my ancestors, so I've got no complaints. But that one was kind of a disappointment. The one guy with a title turned out to be a prick.

Thank you so much!
A quiet and passionate woman, no doubt! I love a story like that.
So many people have stories in their trees. You might think your family is boring but until you dig you won't know.
There are mysteries and dead ends that seem insoluble in my own family history, usually women. Researching the women of the past made more of a feminist of me, I think. Life could be nasty, brutish and short- for men. For a woman it sometimes appears to be a vignette from Dante's Inferno. You wonder how they endured it...often they didn't.

I had to be in the right place to read your post Kzoo. I can't add to anything anyone else here hasn't said. I think you have the makings of a novel here and I'm thinking a historical fiction. Some of your ancestors and some fictitious characters put in some interesting situations however your fancy takes them. Heck you could have a whole series novels. Something to ponder in your spare time, if you have any. I am sorry it took me so long to come back around to read your post. I honestly don't know what I am doing here anymore. I fritter my time away, busily doing nothing at all. I suspect my days here are numbered. Oh I have a few left posts in me, if I have the urge to type them up and post them. We'll see.
PD actually did some blogging about Skinner, the supposed progenitor of the clan. (I'm convinced that he IS our progenitor, but I can't document it or prove it.) One of the reactions to her post was from an asshole cousin who more or less said "This is MY family- stay out of it!" Genealogists can be a prickly lot, and he wasn't feeling grateful about the research finds that I gave him. I think instead he was pissed off that I dug the stuff up and he missed it.

This is not the site to post such stuff anyway- no one joins this site to read history, or family history. You can't trust the site's own count on blogs and bloggers, but it feels like it's shrinking, constricting, so I get where you're coming from when you say your days may be numbered. The main thing that's kept me personally from posting has been the technical unreliability of the site. You can't count on posts or photos to stay put, and people can't navigate to your blog even if they want to.
