That one was dramatic. I'm partial to dogwood anyway, and that one was asserting itself. i've know sawmill men who won't saw fencerow trees just because they'll have wire in them, and in the city they get nails from signs that are ingrown. I wish there was a law against nailing into a living tree- but the trees always slowly fight back. They don't see themselves as lumber.

 Wonderful pictures. Gracie's having a ball!
Love all of them, the ducks, Gracie and especially the one where nature tries to correct injustice perpetrated by humans.

Thank you honey. I'm feeling more upbeat about nature lately. I don't have that many winters left and I felt a bit cheated this year. Gracie doesn't care- she has that Pooh attitude that today is a very good day, even if it's thirty four degrees and raining. I'm inclined to agree with her, unless it's thirty four degrees and raining.

 Thank you sweetie! The forest is a wonderful place. We had windstorms early in the week, and there are a lot of trees down, but new ones grow up, and the old feed the young. Every tree has an ecology all its own, just like the forest. It's all connected. I'd be happy to be tossed in the marsh when I go- it would be fitting.

We do live in a pretty place. More and more people are using the Preserves. On warm weekends it's getting kind of crowded. Even on cold weekends we don't have the place to ourselves anymore. There's a new bikeway being built through the east side of Al Sabo to connect it to other bikepaths in the two cities. The bright side of this is that the local girls' track and cross country runners are out there spring, summer and fall, training.

 I wish I had a tenth of that enthusiasm. We hiked at Gourdneck State Game Area yesterday, and followed deerpaths. She was busting through thorn patches that didn't bother the deer or her, but it sure took a toll on me!
