It IS a shame, but it isn't surprising at all. Most people who read have the attention span of a four week old puppy, I think. I've had friends who couldn't concentrate on any article or story longer than the standard Dick and Jane. It's getting worse rather than better. It's the MTV thing- flashing images that appear and disappear in a fraction of a second and are as quickly replaced by a new one, and this one's interactive. It drives me nuts, but there's a new generation that lives its life on screen. It isn't their fault, it's OUR fault. Ours is the age group that gave it to them. They're addicted, and who wouldn't be, growing up that way?

Obviously, another thing going on is that this site is packed with men who have blue balls. Nearly all of them are looking for sexual imagery, and a great number of them want cyber sex...not REAL sex, mind you. A huge number are getting their vicarious kicks online and never intend to touch actual human flesh. They look at posts like mine and think they've got booted and ended up at the Nature Conservancy.

I'm not whining about it, but I can't help but laugh about it.

If the image feature were turned off that would be par for the goddamn course. The site turned off MY image feature overnight, again. I had to re-post my pics. Sigh. It happens all the time.

Text will rarely be able to compete with pictures, I think. As animals, we are after all programmed to respond that way, and the digital age plays perfectly to that. I love a clever or well written post, but most visitors will react to an image of some kind more often.

 There's actually nothing really wrong with it, if you think about it. I place more value on adept use of images to tell a story, or make a remark, and I love the sexy photos of members themselves, but the lowest common denominator is making its voice heard by flocking to the porn pic posts. Plenty of bloggers use imagery and words intelligently, but it's inevitable that the tits and ass will win out.

 Maybe I'm being too hard on him. The man's gotta eat, right? But plenty of TV reporters have switched to other venues like PBS or NPR. The money isn't going to be as good but there has to be more self respect in it. I don't have any illusions that journalists are any less principled now than they've ever been. I suppose Wolf is a victim of the corporate takeover of...nearly everything, just like the rest of us. But I'm still gonna laugh at him. Maybe it'll motivate him to change his life, get a job as a caretaker for a resort in the mountains and write that novel he's been...

These are brilliant suggestions, O Spunkful one! How can I fail with your thoughtful and careful direction! Probably there should be a tattoo for USDA prime ass, or at least a stamp. I know it. Some of my best friends keep their clothes on. Damnit. I do love the exhibitionists, but I like the pictures of them. I understand that bloggers see sexy pics and gifs online and want to share them as an example of what they like. It's just not my favorite thing about the blogs.

I've made good friends here of people who post few pics, none revealing, and some who post no pics at all.

Now Khu has me feeling guilty for picking on Wolf Blitzer. I suppose he IS well groomed. I'll concede that. But, like it or not, he represents the amoral and greedy corporate media and he takes a paycheck for it, so he's gonna have to take the heat.
