I think so- Steely Dan were fans of William Burroughs. That's where their name came from, the steam powered dildo in "Naked Lunch". Plenty of lyrics suggest a similar method.

Trust you've also discovered Brion Gysin? A long-ago girlfriend gave me an EP of his (yep, an EP, not an LP -- kids, ask your parents) titled "Orgy Boys" which included a nod in the credits to Patti Smith.

My girlfriend's comment: "Patti Smith is an orgy boy?"

 I didn't study Gysin the way I did Burroughs- I thought his ideas were interesting, and of course Burroughs was infatuated with him but I mostly just appreciated his influence.

Some lines are funnier or more powerful than others when you do this- ya never know what you're gonna get. that's part of the fun of doing it. I think the technique made Burroughs a little too obscure though. He was a fine writer with a mystical style in a uniquely outrageous way in his own right.
