We've had some really great fall weather, haven't we? There's a good chance I'll be moving to the west side of the state sometime next year - after my daughter graduates from GVSU. Looking forward to exploring new vistas. Thanks for the 'preview' Opportunity may knock only once, but temptation bangs on the door forever!

It's jack in the pulpit, Rancho. They bloom early and then spend the summer making these seeds. They're pretty toxic- there's oxalic acid in the plant and the berries. But they're such a beautiful bright red that they stand out. I m not sure, but.. what I used to call jack, was a green stripped tulip type flower, with a leaf that would hang over it. and water inside the flower. face piles of trials with smiles.. Those are the jack in the pulpit seeds that Rancho and I are talking about in this very post. In the spring the plant has a single top leaf that hangs over the flower. They range from green with light stripes to red and nearly purple. They're highly toxic- loaded with oxalic acid. As summer progresses they produce berries- seeds- and in fall the seeds turn bright red. This is a photo of a jack in the pulpit in early summer or late spring. [image]

Rancho: Plants change as the season progresses. Yes, you've described jack in the pulpit correctly. In the spring they look as you said. In fall, they produce these red berries. The rest of the plant withers away and only the reproductive part remains. It's all about the sex, man. Don't take my word for it- use your google! unlike jack.. I ain't getting any .. so that threw me.. so sorry.. LOL... and thanks I love the photo of jack too.. face piles of trials with smiles.. MOODY BLUES please feel free to visit my blog happy blogging

This is just what I needed to start the weekend. Our colors are starting up but won't be so brilliant due to lack of rain all summer. But I take my new Nikon everywhere and once I figure out how to upload some pics, I will share. Thanks for these. I missed the sand hill crane migration in Bosque del Apache in NM (Virtual Symposium Group) use Virtual Symposium Group

It's great to read a post of your walks. Gracie was namechecked but Marco wasn't. Do I need to alert an animal charity?!

I've just realised you didn't namecheck PJ. Shall I alert the police? You're white so you'll get a fair arrest!
